Universal Music Group has announced a partnership with Daniel Nigro, the producer best known for his work with Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan, with the record company partnering with Nigro through his record label Amusement Records. Nigro has become one of the most lauded producers in pop music, thanks to his famed partnerships with Roan and Rodrigo. Nigro produced both of Rodrigo's albums, Sour and Guts , as well as Roan's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and singles "Good Luck, Babe!" and "The Giver." He's also worked with Caroline Polachek, Sky Ferreira and Conan Gray. Back in February, he won the Grammy Award for Producer of the Year; he was nominated for the award the year prior as well. More from The Hollywood Reporter "Daniel embodies the type of creative brilliance and entrepreneurial spirit that is at the heart of UMG," UMG CEO Lucian Grainge said in a statement. "I'm so pleased to embark on this next chapter in our successful relationship, and I can't wait to hear the culture shaping music and artists Daniel will bring next to our global family." Nigro initially founded Amusement for Roan, with the label partnering with UMG's Island Records to release Midwest Princess back in September of 2023. Sales on the album started off slow - it didn't even debut on Billboard's 200 Albums chart until April of 2024 - but it catapulted last year as Roan rose to global superstardom. Roan is the only artist currently listed on Amusement's roster and Rise and Fall is the only album, though the new agreement means more artists are on the way. The deal is not an acquisition, but the partnership gives UMG exclusivity to Nigro's future Amusement signees, with the Amusement roster allowed to partner with all of UMG's subsidiary labels. "After six years of working almost exclusively with the various labels/artists under Universal, it made perfect sense to make the relationship more formal," Nigro said in a statement Wednesday. "I want Amusement Records to be a place where artists can feel comfortable growing and developing at their own pace but with all the real resources needed to thrive and succeed. Also, a place where I can have the freedom to help choose the right team each time for the artist. I know in my heart that the people at Universal understand this, and I am beyond excited about what's to come." Best of The Hollywood Reporter
