Parsec Labs Blog Parsec Labs: The Innovators

Week 3: The Innovators Behind the HyperQ®The initial employees of Parsec Labs (or the fabulous five) chosen for their passion in the project and extensive backgrounds in storage and backup were comprised of:The Experienced Executive (CEO)The Brilliant Architect (CTO)The Irrepressible Implementer (Technical Director)The Engineering Pragmatist (Director of Engineering)Keeping It Together - The Office Manager (/Marketing, /Finance, /HR, /, etc..)The First Software DeveloperOk that's actually six. A better term might then apply (Sensational Six?). The point is: who are these charming, intelligent individuals? Read more below:Walter AngererThe Experienced ExecutiveThe Experienced Executive (CEO) - Walter Angerer (who you have met in the first installment of the Parsec Story) is seasoned Executive in the storage, backup, and data protection industries. His vision and focus on quality and execution has built him a sterling reputation in the field. Many of the other Parsec team members have worked for Walter at various points in their careers and have actively sought to work for him again. Now a Venture Partner in Toba Capital, he previously served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Data Protection at Quest Software where he was responsible for the integration of BakBone and Vizioncore. Walter also served as Vice President and General Manager of the hardware appliance and cloud computing group at Symantec, where he created and launched a successful business in NetBackup appliances. In addition, he has held senior-level positions at Veritas and Siemens, both in Europe and in the United States. Walter holds a master's degree in Physics from Johannes Kepler University in Austria. Sit down and have an espresso with him while chatting about physics.Graham BromleyThe Brilliant Architect (CTO)The Brilliant Architect (CTO) - Prior to his position as CTO of Parsec Labs, LLC, Graham Bromley accumulated over 30 years' experience in the storage industry! Before becoming CTO, Graham was a Distinguished Engineer at Symantec. He has a strong reputation for combining creation of innovative storage concepts, with a pragmatic approach to design and implementation. At Symantec he conceived and designed a massively scalable deduplication architecture for secondary storage, and conceived and led implementation of the OpenStorage program, which achieved industry-wide participation. In prior years, he made substantial contributions to the NetBackup product. In previous positions, he worked on a range of storage technologies including NAS, database, file systems, kernels and device drivers. Graham holds 27 patents spanning this wide range of storage technologies. Graham holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from Imperial College at the University of London. He's one of the best minds with which to start a business. Graham has since moved on to explore another opportunity, but he is still an integral part of what made the HyperQ® what it is today. FYI - He's on the right in this picture from his LinkedIn profile.Kirk ClowserThe Irrepressible ImplementerThe Irrepressible Implementer - Kirk Clowser, our Technical Lead, also has over 30 years of experience in the industry at Unisys, Veritas, Symantec, and Parsec Labs. Kirk has a reputation for mentoring other Engineers of all experience levels. He likes to be known more as a member of the team working "in the trenches" rather than a Director-level executive (World War II metaphors are mentioned frequently). Kirk's down-to-earth mentality, attention to detail, hard work, and determination are what produce results. This is one of his favorite pictures called "Into the Jaws of Death" from his LinkedIn profile.Jon GendaThe Engineering PragmatistThe Engineering Pragmatist - Jon Genda is an entrepreneur and thought leader in the data storage space. Jon believes that innovative thinking and clever hardware design will create revolutionary changes in the way we manage and store our data. Prior to founding Parsec Labs, Jon has spent the past 20 years leading and contributing to highly successful technology companies. Most recently, he was part of the leadership team with the Data Protection Group at Veritas, a global provider of enterprise backup solutions. Adept at problem-solving, he's our Engineering Director, IT Help Desk, and thoughtful advisor rolled into one.Karen MoldenhauerKeeping It TogetherKeeping It Together - Karen Moldenhauer comes to us from Symantec where she acted as Walter's Executive Assistant for 3 years before he moved to Quest Software (devastating). Prior to Symantec, Karen has worked in Customer Service and Support in industries such as Health Care and for the Army Reserve Education Center. Karen holds a BA in History (yes, she's aware that's not a related field). Here at Parsec Labs, she serves as the Office Manager, which title can be misleading. In this case, "Office Manager" stands for the "everything else" i.e. Marketing, Human Resources, Facilities Management, Finance /Bookkeeping, whatever needs to be done. Karen's detail-oriented, enthusiastic, and willing to do whatever it takes to make the team successful. Celebrating team birthdays is one of her favorite things.Richard BromleyThe First Software DeveloperThe First Software Developer- Richard Bromley holds the distinction of being our first Software Engineer hire at Parsec Labs. Prior to Parsec, Richard obtained both a BS and Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis and held an internship at Symantec where he contributed to the development of a Deduplication Storage appliance. Richard pursues interests in a broad variety of subjects in his free time, aside from his main interest in software architecture and programming. He continues to be one of our strongest coders in the core of the product. FYI - He's on the left in this picture from his LinkedIn profile.Next Up: The Location and Starting Work - How did we end up here?Read last week's entry on "A Company Forms" here. https://www.parseclabs.com/acompanyforms
