We all know the story of Boston in colonial times and the events that led up to the American Revolution, but Boston's history goes way beyond that. As a reminder The Ancient Fishweir Project installs a replica of a fishweir on the Boston Common each spring. During the construction of the T tunnels over a hundred years ago, remains of ancient fishweirs were found. These fishweirs were used by Native Americans to trap fish thousands of years ago on what was then the Shawmut Peninsula. The present day installation is a compelling reminder in a dynamic city that continues to change its skyline and develop its neighborhoods, that our past and our future reach far beyond our lifetime.
