Do you have favorite blends you mix over and over again for use in your diffuser or massage oil? Wouldn't it be nice to just grab that blend and not have to drag out all of your oils each time? Stock blends are the perfect solution.To make my stock blends, I like to mix the oils in a 5-ml bottle with a Euro-dropper. Each bottle holds approximately 125-130 drops of essential oil. A typical diffuser recipe is 5-6 drops of oil and a typical inhaler recipe is 10-15 drops. Let's look at the math for converting an inhaler blend into a stock blend.Concentration Inhaler Blend7 drops Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens)5 drops Laurel Leaf (Laurus nobilis)3 drops Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct 1,8-cineole)This recipe has a total of 15 drops. To make a stock blend you take the total drops in the bottle and divide it by the total drops in the blend. The math would look like this:125/15=8.33 so we need to multiply each oil by 8 for a total of 120 drops in the blendConcentration Stock Blend56 drops Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens)40 drops Laurel Leaf (Laurus nobilis)24 drops Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct 1,8-cineole)Once we have the blend made, we need to label it. The label should include the name of the blend, the date it was made and the use by date. To determine the use by date, we need to look at the shelf life of each individual oil. For this example, the Palo Santo was distilled in December 2016 and has a shelf life of 2-3 years, the Laurel Leaf was distilled in February 2017 and has a shelf life of 2-3 years, and the Rosemary was distilled in September 2016 and has a shelf life of 3-4 years. To determine the shelf life of this blend, we would use the shelf life of the Palo Santo, since that blend has the shortest shelf life available.
