PPC: Marlene Smith, who built plastics firm into powerhouse, dies at 79

Marlene Smith, who turned around a stumbling plastics company after taking over from her late husband and became a highly regarded CEO, has died. The Pioneer Press has an obituary on Smith, who was inducted into the Minnesota Women Business Owners Hall of Fame last year. A family member said Smith, 79, had Alzheimer's disease. Smith didn't plan on becoming a CEO, but was forced into the role of leading Lindstrom-based Plastics Products Corp. when her husband, who owned the company, died in 1975....
