Proctor Honda Blog What Is A Radio Code?

About > Blog > Radio CodesHere at Proctor Honda we field many calls from our Tallahassee, FL. area customers asking what they should do when their Honda starts asking for a "radio code." Honda built this feature into their audio systems as a way to render them useless in the event someone should steal your stereo or if the battery in your car is disconnected for any reason. When you buy your Honda new from us, the card with the radio code can be found in the glove box with your owner's manual. However, even if you don't have the card, it is still relatively easy to retrieve the code.View New InventoryStart with the Glove BoxMany newer Honda models came with the radio code printed on a small white label that can be found in the glove box. The code will be either five or six digits long and the label should say "Anti-Theft Radio Code." All you have to do is use the radio's preset station buttons to enter this code. Once entered you should hear a beep sound after which your radio should return to normal operations. However, if this sticker is missing, there are other ways to retrieve it and get your radio working again.2001 and Older Honda VehiclesThese vehicles make retrieving a lost radio code a little harder than newer models. The reason for this is that you will need the radio's serial number. This can be found somewhere on the body of the radio. The only way to find it, is to carefully remove the radio from its home. If you are not comfortable taking the radio out yourself, you should have it done by a professional like one of our certified technicians. Once you have the serial number, there are three ways you can use it to obtain your radio code.First you can bring the radio serial number to us or any other Honda dealership along with proof of ownership. We can locate the code for you. The good news is that this code will never change so all you need to do is record is somewhere for future reference. You can also retrieve the radio code over the phone at 1-800-999-1009, which is the Honda American Client Services hotline. They will ask you to provide your Honda's vehicle identification number (VIN), the radio's serial number, and proof of ownership before giving you the code. Finally, you can retrieve the radio code online at https://radio-navicode.honda.com/. Here again you are going to need the VIN, your phone number, and your zip code. These must match the information currently on file with Honda, and of course you will need the radio's serial number. This option is available from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from Sunday through Friday and from 4.00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays. All times are Pacific standard time.2002 and Newer Honda VehiclesRetrieving your radio code in 2002 and newer Honda vehicles is far simpler. To retrieve the code, all you have to do is hold down the 1 and 6 preset buttons and then turn the ignition key on. Do not start the car, simply place the key in the on position to turn on the power. Once you do this and hold the buttons for a few seconds, your radio code will be displayed as a ten-digit number.Be sure to write the number down for future reference. Once you have the number, you can follow the same steps outlined above to retrieve the radio code and enter it into the radio. You should keep both the radio serial number and radio code stored safely away for future use to alleviate this problem in the future.See More Blog PostsContact UsProctor Honda2373 West Tennessee StreetTallahassee, FL 32304
