PsiQuantum secured a $10.8 million contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop and deliver next-generation quantum photonic chips. The agreement builds on a partnership established in 2022 and will support AFRL's quantum circuit design and validation efforts. PsiQuantum will provide advanced Barium Titanate (BTO) electro-optic phase shifters and software tools for component construction, with chip production handled through its existing partnership with GlobalFoundries at Fab 8 in New York. The project includes delivering complete quantum chips that integrate AFRL-designed optical circuits with PsiQuantum's proprietary 300mm BTO material, which is considered a top-performing electro-optic switching platform. PsiQuantum will support the design, construction, and performance validation of these chips, while AFRL will assess their applicability to a range of Air Force use cases. Work will occur at facilities in Palo Alto, Malta, and Albany, and is scheduled for completion by May 2027.This contract continues federal support for the growing quantum ecosystem in Upstate New York, led by AFRL Rome Lab and backed by lawmakers Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Elise Stefanik. The deal also supports PsiQuantum's broader development of its Omega chipset, a photonic quantum processor designed for scalability to millions of qubits.PsiQuantum received a $10.8M contract from AFRL to supply quantum chips and software tools.Chips will use PsiQuantum's high-performance BTO electro-optic phase shifters.Manufacturing will be conducted at GlobalFoundries' Fab 8 in New York.AFRL will validate the chips for Air Force use cases; delivery is due by May 2027.The contract supports AFRL's ongoing work at Rome Lab and strengthens the quantum sector in Upstate New York."The team at AFRL has long understood the value of cutting-edge silicon photonics, and we are grateful to continue our work with the lab to deliver our state-of-the-art quantum chip capabilities to the U.S. Air Force," said Prof. Jeremy O'Brien, Co-Founder and CEO, PsiQuantum.PsiQuantum Wins $10.8M USAF Contract for Quantum Chip
