Earlier this year I decided to get rid of my old Twitter account and start a new one. I'd been on Twitter since 2007. Twitter went live in 2006. I'd always used Twitter as a platform for discussing my work and personal highlights, my interactions with brands, and as a way to keep up with news and politics. That was great as a utility, but I wasn't building a community. When I had something important to write about, who was there to listen? It was hard to give up that "veteran" status, but my old account wasn't "doing" anything. It was just noise.I didn't have an engagement plan. I was talking to everyone, and when it comes to social media, talking to everyone doesn't work.
