RCW Blog How I Infiltrated the Inner Circle of the Rare U.S. Coin Industry

Over four years ago I met world-renowned numismatist, Steve Contursi, and within 30 minutes of conversation I handed him a check for $80,000. Like most people, you're probably wondering if I'm suffering from some kind of mental illness. In order to perhaps convince you otherwise let me take you back in time. Many people my age, which I will not mention here, have somewhere buried in their attic a shoebox full of old coins they perhaps inherited from their crazy uncle. Since I could not flush my own shoebox full of coins down the toilet or safely dispose of them otherwise, about 20 years ago I took them to a small dealer and was offered $750.As a former professional trader and portfolio manager for some of the largest financial institutions in the world, I understand the concept of owning something more exclusive than small time coins that act like a commodity. Therefore, I inquired about owning something rare where the basics of supply and demand might lead to capital preservation and appreciation. My first rare U.S. coin was a 1924 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle and over the next several years I purchased 5 more coins for a total of $25,000.Fast forward to 4 years ago when I first met Steve Contursi at the Las Vegas Money Show. As I mentioned, in less than 30 minutes Steve demonstrated what makes RCW Financial different. RCW uses its strong market position as a vertically integrated inventory house to combine opportunistic buying opportunities with having multiple sales channels to create strategic value. As someone investing my own money, and formerly that of my clients, I realized I could never compete in this industry on my own in a meaningful way. However, I have always allocated part of my own portfolio to alternatives as a way to increase performance and reduce correlation to traditional exposure. What draws me to rare U.S. coins is that they are very likely in strong hands, which usually means low volatility and opportunities to profit in the future. With all this in mind and after having dabbled in my own coin trading, I asked Steve how we could work together and why he would even consider doing business with a guy like me.It's simple. Although RCW has strong purchasing power and is able to take advantage of many buying opportunities, it is not able to capitalize on every opportunity. I understood the win-win value proposition, and considering RCW's strong reputation in the industry I immediately handed Steve a check for $80,000 in addition to my small rare coin collection.Even though Steve thought I was nuts, and probably still does, I thought it was a coup. I had just infiltrated the inner circle of the rare U.S. coin industry!Since then I have continued to grow and add to my rare U.S. coin portfolio through both the numismatic trading account and long-term wealth preservation portfolio. Steve even hired me several years ago as a consultant. As an investor and now as a RCW agent, I can uniquely speak to the firm's integrity, market position and the advantages of purchasing rare U.S. coins as part of an investment strategy. If my story resonates with you please contact me and we can discuss how you can join me in the inner circle too.
