Ready Real Estate Blog Dallas Fort Worth loses an icon

RIP Big Tex When news broke about Big Tex going up in flames last week, many in the DFW area weren't sure what to feel. He had been there there for 60 years - longer than most people can remember. The circle where he stood is a special piece of Dallas Texas real estate. It was the place that you would meet your parents if you got lost at the State Fair. Sure, Big Tex wasn't very modern looking, but that wasn't the point. Seeing him reminded you of your first corny dog, your first ride on the Star of Texas ferris wheel and of walking around the midway holding hands with your sweetheart. The re-kindling of these memories remind everyone why we love to call Dallas TX home. For being such a big city, everybody still has that small town friendliness and it's not unheard of to hear someone saying "Howdy," just like Big Tex did. If you've just made Dallas TX home and are new to the area, make sure you put the Texas State Fair it on your to-do list for next year. You may have been to a state fair before, but there's none like the Texas State Fair. Big Tex will rise again next year and he will always call Dallas TX home. Photo credit: StevenM_61 flickr
