One of the most exciting new smartphones coming to the market is the Nokia Lumia 1020. Previously known by code names EOS and "Elvis," the phone runs on the Windows Phone 8 operating system and picks up where the Nokia Lumia 920 left off. In the United States, it is going to be an exclusive to AT&T Wireless, just like its predecessor. For anyone who is a fan of Microsoft's mobile operating system and Nokia's quality hardware, it is worth exploring all of the features included in this device.Build QualityThe build quality of the Lumia 1020 is very much the same as that of the Lumia 920. From the front, the smartphone looks virtually identical to its predecessor. It sports a polycarbonate unibody that is available in known color choices of black, white and yellow. In general, it is easy to assume that the 1020 will also be available in red and cyan like the Nokia Lumia 920, but this remains to be seen. While the Lumia 920 was considered quite heavy at 185 grams, the 1020 is lighter at only 158 grams. It sports the same 4.5 inch PureMotion HD+ display that includes Nokia's own ClearBlack technology, which allows the user to enjoy viewing content on the screen even while outdoors in the brightest of sunlight. One big change from the 920 is that the Lumia 1020 utilizes an AMOLED touchscreen, which makes the colors really pop and look far more natural. It seems that Nokia has taken to using this technology in its flagship smartphones at this time, whereas previously, it was only used in their mid-range handsets. The display measures in at 1280 by 768 pixels and 332 pixels per inch. InternalsThe Nokia Lumia 1020 is available with 32GB of internal storage. Unlike all previous smartphones that run on Windows Phone 8, however, it includes 2GB of RAM instead of the standard 1GB. There is no microSD card slot, but most users can get by very well with 32GB. Of course, all Windows Phone owners also get 7GB of free cloud storage on SkyDrive. The phone also has a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which is all that is needed for Microsoft's mobile operating system as the phones are extremely intuitive and run smoothly. Perhaps the biggest feature of excitement to be found on the Lumia 1020 is its camera. It combines the technology of the Lumia 920 and the Nokia 808 Pureview that runs on Nokia's Symbian OS. It is an incredible 41 megapixels, 38 of which are actually effective, and includes Carl Zeiss optics, for which Nokia has been famous for using for the past several years. Within the camera, there is autofocus, optical image stabilization and Xenon flash, which is also found in Verizon's Nokia Lumia 928. The camera is superior to all others found in smartphones and is exceptional at capturing low light photos. In addition, it can capture superb daylight images as well. It doubles as a camcorder and is capable of shooting 1080 pixel video at 30 frames per second. The secondary front-facing camera is 1.2 megapixels, which is more than sufficient for engaging in video chats. The battery is a Lithium-ion 2000 mAh ticker, which is identical to the one found in the Lumia 920. It provides users with up to 13 hours and 20 minutes of talk time and as much as 384 hours of standby time.Operating System and Key FeaturesAs previously mentioned, the Nokia Lumia 1020 runs on Windows Phone 8. The operating system is a breeze to use as it is fluid and intuitive with the clean Metro user interface of live tiles. It is also about the individual as users can easily pin the apps of their choice to the home screen for quick and easy access. In addition, they can personalize their smartphone with up to 21 color choices for their live tiles. There is also the People Hub, the Me tile and social network integration, which are features that can really grab the user's attention and that lead to the love of Windows Phone. For users who have kids, one of the best features found in the Lumia 1020 is Kids Corner. This is a section on the phone that allows the individual to choose what apps their kids can have access to. Meanwhile, the rest of the content on the device is locked and protected, meaning children can happily play games while the phone feature, text messages, social networking and other things are kept hidden. The Nokia Lumia 1020 should be available later this month, in July 2013. Be sure to check ReplaceYourCell.com for great deals on this device.
