SAXA: When did you first start designing?HF: I started designing in 2002, right after I finished studying fashion design. I built a brand with some friends and we did a lot of experimenting before I launched my own brand.SAXA: Who or what inspired you to become a designer? Was it always something you always knew you would do?HF: A desire to express myself through my style is what made me want to be a designer. I used to live in a small town and raid all the thrift stores for any particular piece I was wanting at the time, but even though I always found amazing things, it was never exactly what I had in mind. Being a fashion designer is something I always had in me, but I studied some business administration before getting into fashion.SAXA: Who are your favorite designers and why?HF: I love Alber Elbaz at Lanvin and Miuccia Prada at Prada for their originality and for having fun with fashion, without being shallow. I also love what Christophe Lemaire has been doing for Hermes, I think it is timeless yet fresh. SAXA: What was one of your favorite collections you created so far and why?HF: I really love the fall/winter 14 that is being sold right now, I adore the fabrics and the mix of light, airy and transparent with the heavier fabrics, and the prints are really among my favourites. I think it has a magical quality to it! SAXA: Tell us about your new collection and what influenced you/inspired you, for your clothing?HF: My new collection was about magic and mystery. It is about a woman searching to find her place and understand all the magical forces that surround her. I was inspired by an artist called Xul Solar, some collage, vitoriana and turn of last century postcards. SAXA: What are your plans for the future?HF: I plan on opening new markets in Brazil and abroad, as well as keep on ministering fashion courses in pattern making and design at my atelier. SAXA: What is your advice to other aspiring designers, that would also love to have a successful career in this business?HF: My advice is for them to keep an open mind to different inspirations, to work for someone to know how it is really done, and to remember that making clothes is a craft that should be honed and honoured. I believe in quality garments that stand the test of time, and in taking good care of the people that work with/for you.SHOP HELOISA FARIA COLLECTION HERE
