Seagate: Seagate introduces 24TB Barracuda hard drives!

Seagate is seriously boosting the storage capacity of its hard drives for the consumer sector. Until now, the Barracuda series has only offered up to 8TB of capacity, but now, thanks to its new additions, the brand is going even further. Three new drives are on offer, including a 24TB Barracuda ! Barracuda 24TB: Seagate steps up a gear! With this series, we now have the right to high-capacity hard drives. Seagate has added three new drives with 16TB, 20TB and 24TB models. All in 3.5″ format, with a SATA III interface. Compared with the smaller models, these newcomers operate at a speed of 7200 rpm, whereas on the lower capacity models we had disks running at up to 5400 rpm. Furthermore, there will be no increase in transfer speeds, with a maximum of 190 MB/s. This is where we realise the huge gap in performance with SSDs . At the moment, it's not difficult to find a PCIe 4.0 M.2 model that writes at more than 6 GB/s... But capacities are often limited, of course. Otherwise, we are dealing here with models that use CMR technology for data recording. With this, you can also count on a 512 MB multi-segment cache, a capacity double that of models up to 8 TB! And let's not forget that these disks are helium-sealed too. Now for some figures relating to lifespan. Here, the brand is announcing an annual operating time of 2,400 hours and an annual workload of 120 TB! In short, we're now curious to see how much these new hard drives will cost. The Barracuda 8TB currently retails for around €200. The manufacturer's warranty is 2 years. Français (France)
