Whether it's SMR's ability to load-follow renewables, desalinate seawater, provide district heating, power chemical production, oil refining, hydrogen production or advanced steelmaking without the emissions presently released by fossil fuel plants, co-generation and hybrid systems with small modular nuclear reactors are key ingredients to our global energy future. Like the early auto industry, modularization will lead to cheaper costs and expansion into new markets. These issues will be center stage at a conference on April 14 and 15 devoted just to SMRs - the 5th Annual Small Modular Reactor Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina.
