With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season behind us, the grey days of winter may be making an older loved one feel a little down. People of all ages experience the post-holiday blues. But knowing if a senior loved one has the blues or something more serious can be hard to determine. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) might really be what is to blame.SAD is also referred to as winter depression because it typically affects people during the winter months. As the hours of daylight become shorter the body's circadian rhythms are interrupted. Experts at the National Institute for Mental Health believe this disruption in the body's sleep-wake cycle is where the problems begin.
