Supervalu, Inc.: Major recall of salt and pepper sold in Dunnes, Tesco and SuperValu as urgent warning issued

A number of major supermarkets across Ireland have issued an urgent recall of several popular seasonings over fears they may contain plastic pieces. An alert was issued today for eight specific batches of Cape Herb and Spice branded products by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland . The safety chiefs said in a statement: "These batches of Cape Herb and Spice products are being recalled due to the possible presence of plastic pieces. Consumers are advised not to use the implicated batches." The affected products - which are sold in the likes of Dunnes Stores, Tesco and SuperValu - have since been removed from sale. Customers are being warned to check their cupboards and not consume any affected seasonings. The following Cape Herb and Spice grinders are affected by the recall, which covers all best-before dates from September 2026 to May 2027: Seasoned Salt (240g) Extra Bold Peppercorns (185g) Salt & Pepper (310g) Himalayan Pink Salt (390g) Sizzling Steak House Seasoning (230g) Atlantic Sea Salt (380g) Chilli & Garlic (190g) Rainbow Pepper (175g) Seasoned Salt (240g) Extra Bold Peppercorns (185g) Salt & Pepper (310g) Himalayan Pink Salt (390g) Sizzling Steak House Seasoning (230g) Atlantic Sea Salt (380g) Chilli & Garlic (190g) Rainbow Pepper (175g) Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to use them due to the potential presence of plastic, which could pose serious health risks. Customers can return them to their local store for a refund. Meanwhile, supermarkets are displaying recall notices in-store, while wholesalers and distributors have been instructed to pull all affected batches from circulation immediately.
