As many of you know, Speedwell Forge is the lake that Swiss Woods Bed and Breakfast overlooks and due to major storms needed a complete renovation of the dam. In addition a local grass roots group has secured monies from a Growing Greener grant to remove 40 years of accumulated sediment from the lake bottom.The work has begun! All the waiting for permits, plans and contractors is over and this last week we were elated to see the first backhoes and bulldozers arrive. This is the sediment removal portion and the actual work on the dam itself should start soon as well. A big thank you to the Speedwell Wolf Sanctuary who is taking the sediment to make new wolf enclosures. The Sanctuary is located just around the corner from Swiss Woods and many of our guests enjoy the tours and special full moon events there.All this to say our lake is on it's way back and promises to be better than ever. In the meantime there are so many other reasons to visit Swiss Woods. Our hiking trails are still amazing, Werner's gardens are set to bloom and Lititz PA is booming after being 2013's coolest small town. Second Friday's continue to grow and are a big hit. Over the course of spring, summer, fall and winter we have identified well over 140 different birds. Yesterday we watched a summer tanager flit through the newly greening trees and the distinctive pecking of the pileated woodpecker sounds from the forest.Make your reservations now.
