The Capital Athletic Club Blog I Almost Made It

Well, it is one week before Christmas and I almost made it through the holidays without caving into temptation. I did so well at Thanksgiving, just eating one piece of pie and not overdoing it on the main meal. Since then, I have gone easy on the cookies and cakes too. Then there was this past Monday. Our members here at the CAC are so nice. During the holidays they always bring us goodies, which we really appreciate. What sent me over the edge was the box of See's. My favorite, favorite are the bordeaux and the mocha cremes. I couldn't resist any longer; I ate them. Then I ate brownies and sugar cookies followed by a piece of pizza from the CAC basketball finals. The next day, Tuesday, I ate more See's for breakfast, rice krispy treats for lunch and peach ice cream for dinner. After not sleeping very well on Tuesday night because of a rumbly tummy, I finally pulled myself together. I work too hard on my fitness to let all this junk get in the way. So, I had a talk with myself about self-care through the holidays. Lack of sleep is my worst enemy. It weakens my resolve. I skimp on workout length and intensity and to "help me stay awake" I eat - usually crappy foods. From now through News Year's, my one main goal is to get at least 7.5 hours of sleep every night. That will make so many things right. I will feel better, exercise better and eat less. One of the things that I have come to appreciate in my life is that I know myself pretty well. I know what moitvates me and I know what pushes my buttons. I think this knowledge is what helped me divert a possible large weight gain over the holidays. Do you feel like you know yourself well enough to catch things early, before they become a problem? How do you deal with hiccups in diet and exercise routines? I know, for sure, to never give up; always get back up and keep going. Happy holidays, Jeanette
