The J.M. Smucker Co: Congressman Smucker is simply a 'follower,' when we need him to lead [letter]

Congressman Lloyd Smucker is, in my view, a pathetic "placeholder." Remember his statement, 24 hours prior to last week's vote on the House budget blueprint, that he couldn't vote for the bill? Then, suddenly, he could (" 'Not acceptable' to 'Yea': Smucker flips on budget resolution," April 11 LNP | LancasterOnline). He simply follows the "leader," as usual, because I believe that he is too afraid not to. He does this despite the constant lies by President Donald Trump. Can't local Republicans find someone better than Smucker, who is too busy to ever meet with his constituents at open, in-person town halls? We are urged to take our concerns to our congressman, but, as many have demonstrated, why bother? Smucker's responses, even in letters, do not match the concerns shared. Please, people, wake up. We are at a very dangerous time and we need capable leaders, not "followers." Victoria Swayne Penn Township
