The Pet Rescue Center Blog Every Dog Deserves To Be Considered For Rescue

Severely Neglected Senior Poodle Abandoned At ShelterAs children we are taught to respect our elders, to treat their years of experience with the deference they deserve. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with our pets, though it should be. Shelters all across the nation struggle to help the senior pets that enter their facilities. Older dogs and cats are abandoned for many reasons but sadly, these pets may not thrive in a chaotic shelter environment. Their chances of being adopted are low and they are often overlooked for their younger counterparts. Due to this, older pets are at high risk of euthanasia. One such fellow, is our pal Joshy. This 10-year-old, tiny poodle mix was brought into a local shelter in very poor condition. Dirty and underweight, his fur so badly matted that one nail became painfully ingrown and his toe had to be amputated. Needless to say, his outlook was quite bleak. During his time at this shelter, nobody came to claim him nor did a single person express interest in adopting him. It seemed as though his fate was sealed until The Pet Rescue Center stepped in. We know that there is a lot to love about old timers and boy, does Joshy need a lot of love right now. He has a pretty severe cough which we are treating and he needs to put on some weight. He has slight arthritis which limits the movement in his left rear leg and will require medication. His condition is treatable and manageable with just a little TLC.Doesn't every dog deserve to be considered for rescue? We spend a lot of effort ensuring we do not discriminate based on breed, cleanliness or fear, but did you know age is also a determinant for survival in a shelter? Age should never determine an animal's right to a happy future, but at the shelters it does. Shelters consider five-year- old, a senior, which places that dog in immediate danger of euthanasia. Dogs can live to be 15 to 20 years old. We don't know why Joshy ended up in a shelter, only that the happy and loving little guy needed us. We could not provide for older pets like Joshy without the support of generous donors like you. At this point in his life, Joshy deserves kindness from people, he still has many years of life ahead of him and with your help, will make a wonderful pet one day. All he wants is to feel good again and that is precisely what we want for him To view Joshy's fundraising page and donate toward his care, please click HERE.
