Cyber threats are persistent, widespread, and increasingly sophisticated, according to the 2025-2026 National Cyber Threat Assessment report by the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (the Cyber Centre). [i] "In the last two years, we have witnessed a sharp increase in both the number and severity of cyber incidents, many of which target our essential services," says Bill Blair, Minister of National Defense, in a forward to the report. In the US, the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) warns that "Any cyberattack, no matter how small, is a threat to our national security and must be identified, managed, and shut down." [ii] There's no doubt that cyber security is a rising concern, and the impact of cybercrime is escalating as organizations adopt cloud computing to provide the performance, scalability, and flexibility they need to serve a global, digital-first landscape.
