When are leaves at their peak fall color in Central and Northern Minnesota? I usually tell guests the first weekend in October, and it looks like we are right on track. The pictures in this post I took on September 30th. The trees on the resort are mostly birch, basswood and pine, so you can see from the pictures that we are mostly green and yellow at this point, but changing quickly! I'm going to bet this weekend is going to be glorious! The Park Rapids area in general has some really quiet areas to enjoy fall. One section of the Lake Country Scenic Byway runs from Park Rapids to Detroit Lakes, and the closer you get to Detroit Lakes the more oranges, reds and golds you will see. This can easily be seen from your car. Another spot to consider is Tamarac Wildlife Refuge. You'll see great color here, along with birds and wildlife. And of course the obvious "go to" is beautiful Itasca State Park located just 10 minutes from the resort. If you can handle the climb up the fire tower, you're guaranteed a great view at the top! I also wanted to be sure to mention that because Minnesota has so many evergreen pines, the landscape is always dotted with deep green for contrast. If kicking through the leaves on a crisp, sunny October afternoon is your thing, we encourage you to make a reservation now. We are open until October 15th and have two and three bedroom cabins to choose from. The Department of Natural Resources has a map that shows the progression of the changing leaves. It's a good tool to use if you're trying to time your visit just right!Until next time ~~ JenniferTwo Inlets Resort is located north of Park Rapids, MN and just south of world famous Itasca State Park.
