Vines of Mendoza Blog The Ultimate Wine Experience: Wine Camp

The Vines Wine Camp takes place from the first harvests at the end of February until the last harvests in April. The day starts early as everyone gathers at first light, gets fueled up with a delicious breakfast and then kitted out with comfortable work gear. First job at hand is harvesting the grapes - definitely enough so you can get a feel for the work, but not enough to leave you exhausted. You will be expertly guided through tastings of the grapes, learn how to sort the bunches and then take off the stalks and leaves, readying them to be de-stemmed by the Vines state-of-the-art machinery. Just for fun (as these grapes aren't used to make wine from), play around with stomping a bucket of grapes with your feet. This is a sensation you are sure to never forget, and always creates some great carefree memories among participants. After cleaning up, you'll move to the winery to learn the important punching down process, then on to taste many wines, comparing them to the grapes that were harvested in order to get a better feel for the fermentation process. The afternoon finishes by unwinding with your new winemaking friends over a decadent asado lunch in the middle of the vines, accompanied by copious amounts of Torrontes and Malbec. No matter if you are just starting to get into wine and can't tell a Malbec from a Merlot, or if you are a connoisseur who prides yourself on your in-depth knowledge of bouquets and what year was the best year for Cab Sauv in Napa and why, everyone is welcome and will be taught at the appropriate level for them. Spots are limited and fill up fast in these camps, so make sure to reserve your accommodation and place now.
