Whole Body Pilates Blog 5 Ways to Keep Your New Year's Resolution

The studio always has big rush in the beginning of January. Everyone is excited and motivated to start or keep up a Pilates, barre, and yoga routine-at least until life gets in the way of good intentions. So, how do you keep up a movement goal? Here are a few tips that I've seen from people who manage to stick to their regimen throughout the whole year.Make it Manageable Don't set yourself up for failure! When you start a new routine or just ramp up what you're already doing, try to build it in to your day in a way that makes it easy. If you aren't a morning person but promise yourself that a 6 a.m. class would change your life... Well, maybe it will, but you may also just end up feeling like it's not manageable. Better to try scheduling your Pilates, barre, and yoga classes at times that you'd normally watch TV or do something other than sleeping. For me, that's right after work. (Trust me, I'm not a morning person, either!)Make it SocialIt's often easier to motivate yourself when you know someone is counting on you! Ask a friend to go with you to class, then grab a coffee afterwards and catch up. Get to know your instructors; they will be able to help keep you motivated too, especially if they know your specific goals. Whole Body offers a few Refer-a-Friend discounts for you and your friends!Try Something NewSometimes it's easy to get in a rut, which fatigues both our brains and our bodies. That's when it's a good time to spice things up. Never taken a personal training class? Check out Teagen's new Cardio Circuit class on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. Never tried yoga? The level one Vinyasa class is the perfect one to try for beginning yogis!Forgive YourselfWe all make goals that life gets in the way of, and that's OK. The great thing about fitness is that it can be a regular thing. If your goal was three classes a week and you miss one, don't beat yourself up over it. Just hit the reset button (or snooze if it's 6 a.m.) and let it go. Then make time for the next class!Congratulate YourselfGive yourself the praise you deserve. Even if you don't make it to every yoga, barre, or Pilates class you wanted to attend, you still did a lot! Every time you get to a class, make sure you remind yourself how well you are doing. Keep up the positive mental energy; it only promotes more in the future!Tags: Pilatesdenveryogabarrecapitol hillCategory: The Studio
